Things To Do and Activities
On Grand Cayman

Smith Cove
Smith Cove is a small, attractive beach worth visiting. Rum Point is a festive beach area with watersports, activities, and a restaurant. It can be reached by car or by ferry from the Hyatt Regency's dock. Geysers spout from Grand Cayman's Blow Holes where waves force water into caverns below the surface. As the pressure builds, impressive bursts of water shoot up into the air. The Cayman Turtle Farm with its many tanks and exhibits educates visitors about endangered green sea turtles from egg to adulthood.

Hell
Most visitors who spend more than a day or two on Grand Cayman experience Hell. This area is named for its surreal, jagged ironshore rock formations. In Hell, one can send mail postmarked from "Hell, Grand Cayman," buy a T-shirt with a Hellish theme, or get a cold drink from the gift store or Club Inferno.

Queen Elizabeth Wilderness Preserve
The 65-acre Queen Elizabeth wilderness preserve showcases a variety of plants indigenous to the Cayman Islands. Interpretive signs identify the flora along the walking trail. Rare blue iguanas are bred and released in the gardens. You can also see native orchids and, if you're lucky, the brilliant green Cayman parrot.

Seven Mile Beach
Grand Cayman's west coast is where you'll find the famous Seven Mile Beach. The beach is litter-free and void of hawkers, so you can relax in an unspoiled, hassle-free atmosphere. This is Grand Cayman's busiest vacation center, and most of the island's accommodations, restaurants, and shopping centers are on this strip. You'll also find headquarters for the island's aquatic activities here.

Activities

Tennis
If this is not available on the premises, it is normally possible to go to the neighboring hotels for a nominal fee & book a court. The Cayman Kai area has 2 courts available free of charge to guests of that area. You must bring your racquets and balls.

Golf
There are two golf courses, one behind the Hyatt Hotel specially designed by Jack Nicklaus. It is half the regular size and has a special ball that only goes half the distance. It is unique. We also have a new driving range located behind the Cayman Falls Shopping Center. A regular 18-hole course is situated at Safe Haven Links. All are available to the public, and situated off Seven Mile Beach.

Water sports
Diving in the Cayman Islands is considered the best in the Caribbean; perhaps the best in the world. Dive shops are conveniently located all over the 3 islands so wherever you stay, one is nearby. Remember to bring your C card with you or learn to dive while you are here and remember to include a trip to Stingray City.

Snorkeling
This is excellent everywhere because of clarity of our waters but the best areas are usually where there is a reef close by. We can advise you on this when choosing your villa. You can either bring your equipment or rent; the rates are reasonable.

Boating
Sailboats, windsurfers and small motorboats area available for rental in the main resort areas. Large motor boats are not normally available for rental, but it is possible to go skiing, snorkeling, and fishing with a guide. Glass bottom boat trips are available in main resort areas also.

Fishing
This is a popular sport here. Deep Sea, bottom, bone and shoreline fishing are available in most areas. Tarpon and bone fishing are best on Little Cayman. June is set aside annually as our Million Dollar Month. Why not register? Be here and win a fortune!

Fun Equipment
Wave runners, parasailing and water skiing are generally available in the popular resort areas of Seven Mile Beach. Check with us for the closest to you.

Please remember that our waters are zoned into Marine Parks System, so you must be careful to familiarize yourselves with what is permitted in your areas. Please see our Cayman Villa Folder in the villa for the map.

Fun Trips

Atlantic Submarine
Seats about 46 persons and by boat from the jetty in George Town, you will board and go down to approx. 100 feet to enjoy diving without a suit. Your guide will tell you about all the wonders of the marine life. For the really braves ones, try the other smaller submarine that will take you to 800 feet.

The Turtle Farm
Is a unique farm where turtles are bred – the only one in the world. Visitors are welcome.

Caves on Cayman Brac
These may have been hideouts for pirates and their treasures.

Bird Watching
Is best on Little Cayman where there are huge flocks of Booby, Frigate or Man o'War birds as well as hundreds of other varieties. Cayman is used as a migratory island between 2 continents, so the variety is unlimited.

Island Trips
Island Trips can be arranged with taxis at the airport and at hotels. Tour buses will also take you for half or full day guided sightseeing island trips for individuals or groups. ISLAND AIR is a charter airline. On the Grand Cayman trip, you can see the whole island on a 6 or 8 seat plane in about ½ an hour. You will be shown and told about the whole island. You can also organize day or overnight trips to our sister islands, Cayman Brac & Little Cayman.

Botanic Park
The Botanic Park is a walk thru time into the rich floral history of the three islands.

The Ferry Ride
Enjoy a fun 40-minute ride on the ferry between Seven Mile Beach & Cayman Kai. You can eat lunch, snorkel & Dive, golf and shop without the pressures of driving in traffic.

Restaurants
Formal, informal and local restaurants are situated at all hotels and on all three islands. As the islands are so small, if they are not within walking distance there will be many within a short driving distance. Almost all will include American European and local fare. Enjoy myriad seafood specialties including conch and turtle steak. As everything is imported into the islands, please expect prices to be approximately 20% higher then the USA. A 15% service charge will be added to the bill. Not all restaurants will accept credit cards so take cash along or check when making your reservations.
