NEWPORT, RI, July 2005 -- One of travel’s pleasures is awakening in a strange bed. One of the pleasures of renting a villa is awakening in a strange bed surrounded by a décor sensibility completely the opposite of home.

Imagine a solitary palm overlooking a gray infinity pool accessed by a covered terrace . Follow the terrace into the house’s interior of designer white chaises, then outside to a tropical garden path that leads to a private coconut grove accessing a marine nature reserve perfect for snorkelling.

St. Barts Villa SIB GRO in Marigot is a European-architect-designed, hi-tech, minimalist concept of clean lines, natural materials and top quality finishes such as bleached teak woodwork, lava stone, Balinese pebbles and cembonit floors, teamed with the inspiration of a color range from Mia Zia, and beautiful modern Italian furniture. The rooms (3 bedrooms) are all dove gray, each with a different vibrant color accent: bougainvillea pink, tangerine orange, ocean turquoise, banana leaf green.

The kitchen is a gourmet cook’s delight, with state-of-the-art cooktop, Smeg gas hob and oven, two enormous stainless steel fridges and two Miele dishwashers. An Italian designer dining table inside mirrors that on the shaded terrace.

Based on the number of bedrooms requested, the weekly rate through mid December (Thanksgiving not available) is from $7,000 to $10,000; and $14,000 to $17,000 from early January through mid April 2006.
