The Barbados Flag

Barbados Flag

There are two explanations behind the symbolism of the flag of Barbados. Both explain that the broken trident symbolizes the break, or independence from England. The three points of the trident represent the three principles of democracy - government of, for and by the people. Simultaneously it symbolizes the sea god Neptune and reflects the sea's large significance for Barbados.

Where they differ is the in the body of the flag. One belief is that the stripes symbolize the blue sea and the golden sand, that encircles the island. The other suggests that the blue on the left is for the sky, the gold for the sand and the right blue for the sea.

What ever you decide about the symbolism of the Barbadian flag you can't deny its uniqueness, or its beauty.
