Throughout the month of September, Hawaii celebrates its culture and heritage during the annual Aloha Festivals. With events including Waikiki Hoolaulea and Aloha Festivals Floral Parade, this month long celebration is Hawaii’s must-attend event of the year. This year’s theme, “Celebrate Island Music,” embraces the traditional and modern music of the Hawaiian Islands. Come listen to the sweet sound of island music, and celebrate the rich and unique culture of Hawaii.
The celebration kicks off on September 2, with the Royal Court Investiture. Enjoy traditional island chants and hula contests as the Alii are honored with their royal symbols of reign for the celebrations. Later that day, the Opening Ceremony marks the beginning of the celebrations with more hula dancing and melodious island chants.
On September 18, stop by Kalakaua Avenue between Lewers & Kapahulu Avenues for the huge block party celebration of Waikiki Hoolaulea. Enjoy lots of delicious, traditional Hawaiian food, lei vendors and live entertainment at this 12 block celebration.
The festivities culminate on September 25, at the Aloha Festivals Floral Parade featuring elaborate floats, a colorful equestrian procession, marching bands, and more.
