With several different islands to choose from, a Virgin Islands honeymoon is an ideal choice for all types of newlyweds looking for a little romance

Planning a wedding can be a lot of work, from choosing a venue, to agreeing on a menu, to picking colors or a theme. However, there’s one part that should be nothing but enjoyable — booking the honeymoon.

After a whirlwind wedding weekend, most newlyweds have similar honeymoon wish lists: sun, sand, crystal-clear water, delicious food, strong drinks, and total relaxation. If you and your fiancé are among those people, you may be considering the Virgin Islands for your romantic honeymoon getaway. After all, if the islands are good enough for celebrities like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Harrison Ford, and Denzel Washington, they are certainly a fine choice for celebrating your first week of married life.

Choosing which island to visit for your Virgin Islands honeymoon can be tough, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself, because it is also quite easy to day trip between some of the major islands. You can’t lose. Also, with direct flights from many U.S. cities to St. Thomas and Beef Island in Tortola, traveling to paradise has never been easier.

St. Thomas is bustling and filled with activities, while St. John offers a slower way of life as the least developed and least densely populated of the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tortola is the largest of the British Virgin Islands (but still keeps that small island feel), and Virgin Gorda offers natural beauty with a luxury twist. You can travel to St. Thomas and St. John without a passport since they are part of the U.S., but you will need the passport if you’re planning to go to Tortola or Virgin Gorda, as they are part of the United Kingdom.

Add Some Romance to Your Virgin Islands Honeymoon

Each island offers the perfect setting for an unforgettable honeymoon, but here are a few ideas to make your Virgin Islands honeymoon even more romantic.

  1. Virgin Gorda: The island of Virgin Gorda is famous for The Baths, a fascinating display of huge granite boulders, secret rock pools, and white sand. This natural attraction cannot be missed, but be sure to get there early because it can get quite crowded. Navigating the maze of The Baths is a great workout, so when you’re done, head over to Spring Bay and spend the rest of the day relaxing on the relatively secluded beach.
  1. St. Thomas: Ride the aerial tramway to the top of Paradise Point for amazing views of St. Thomas and Charlotte Amalie harbor. We recommend taking this 7-minute ride right around sunset so you can fully experience the beauty of the island. When you get to the top, stop to take some photos, and then grab a cocktail at the bar. Have a seat, and take in the gorgeous twinkling lights from the buildings and ships below.
  1. St. John: Spend the day soaking in the sun on Honeymoon Beach (it is your honeymoon after all) and enjoy some snorkeling the clear blue water. In the evening, board a Champagne sunset boat cruise with your sweetheart. The 2 ½ hour sail includes hors d’oeuvres and open bar and departs from The Westin.
  1. Tortola: There are countless pristine beaches in Tortola, but make time to take a romantic trip to the J.R. O’Neal Botanic Gardens. The Gardens are a unique and peaceful 4-acre refuge in the center of Road Town, filled with exotic plants, a lily pond, waterfall, colorful blossoms, and miniature rainforests. It is a relaxing oasis that makes you feel like you’ve been transported to another world — perfect for honeymooners to enjoy each other’s company and the beauty surrounding them.

No matter which island you choose, one of the most special things you can do on your honeymoon is host a private chef in your romantic villa. The chef will come to you, set a stunning table, cook a gourmet meal, and leave you and your new spouse alone to make lasting memories on your Virgin Islands honeymoon. You’ll talk about this special meal for years to come.

Unplug completely and retreat to the less traveled areas of the Caribbean. Enjoy the beautiful hues of the water or jump on in and enjoy the ocean life. Either way, there’s a villa on the beach waiting for you. It has power outlets, but don’t hold that against us. Book your beachfront villa now.
