The Island of St Barthelemy (St Barths)
The island of St Barthelemy is located in the French West Indies, an area in the western part of the Caribbean Sea. Originally settled by the French in the 1600's, St Barthelemy was briefly a possession of the Swedish starting in 1784, and then was ceded back to the French in 1878. The island is also known as St Barths, St Barts or St Barth.
A map of the island of St Barths reveals dozens of bays and coves, an undulating shoreline, and a small natural harbor in the town of Gustavia, the island's captal.
