WIMCO Villas Donates Luxury Villa as Grand Prize in Regatta Les Voiles De St Barts Gears Up for Year Two

NEWPORT, RI - February 2011 - The second edition of the Les Voiles de St Barts Regatta will take place between April, 4th and 9th, 2011. The St. Barts Yacht Club has established this regatta as a major date on the Caribbean racing after only one year. What’s not to like as a sailor? Take St. Barts, an unspoiled yet sophisticated island with an intimate harbor, steady trade winds, Atlantic rollers and tempestuous Caribbean seas and you’ll charm even the most experienced skippers. Whether we are talking about Peter Holmberg, Loïck Peyron, George David or Ken Read, all of these world-class sailors expressed the desire to return this year.

This year the organizers of Les Voiles de St. Barts have increased the concierge services they offer to make the regatta even more attractive for owners and crews. “We leave no stone unturned in offering five-star service,” said Annelisa Gee, one of the event’s organizers. “Beyond the comprehensive logistical services we offer to get boats to the island, crews can enjoy live entertainment every night and food and wine on the docks when the day is done. Gee and her team also help plan a competitor’s stay, from renting villas to hiring cars to making restaurant reservations.

The race village in St Barts’ main harbor in Gustavia will be even bigger and better for the 2011 event. Each day, it will play host to the island’s top chefs, who will make culinary presentations, as well as several wine cellars which will offer wine tastings. Live music also will be a daily feature along with the day’s races shown on a giant screen.

Gee added that the prizes are exceptional for the six classes of racing boats. St Barts leading villa rental company Wimco Villas leads the way, offering the owners of the winning boats in two classes of racing a grand prize of a week in a luxurious private villa in St Barts. One owner will win a week in Wimco Villa ANC, a stunning 3 bedroom villa overlooking Gouverneur beach. A second boat owner will win a week in Wimco Villa EBA, a newly renovated 4 bedroom villa in the peaceful hills of Vitet, with sweeping ocean views.

The regatta has signed-up forty five yachts for the 2011 edition, entered in five classes: Super-Maxi Yacht, Racing, Racing/Cruising, Classic, and Racing Multihull. Among notables are Mike Slade’s 100-foot Farr design Leopard 3, the 105-foot classic Herreshoff schooner Atrevida, the 76-foot W-Class boatWhite Wings, and Patrick Demarchellier’s Swan 45 Puffy. George David (Hartford, Conn.), former United Technologies Chairman and CEO, holder of the Richard Mille Trophy for his win here last year, is back in 2011 with Rambler.
