Romantic Restaurants in St. Barths

Whether it’s the warmth of the air or the friendliness of the island, there’s something about St. Barths that makes people relax. It may be just the perfect place to fall in (or back in) love. If you’re planning a special dinner, here are some of our favorite restaurants with terrific food and love-ly ambiance.

After a long day at Gouverneur beach, or post shopping in town, head over to nearby Do Brazil on Shell Beach (years ago, the entire beach was covered in seashells). At this low-key but lively restaurant, you can sip on ti punch or fresh juices and crisp accra (otherwise known as cod fritters). Clients routinely tout sunset drinks here as a must-do.

Looking for somewhere without a scene, and just a lovely view and standout meal? The unassuming Sante Fe is one of the island’s best-kept secrets. Sitting atop of Gouverneur, the restaurant looks out to views of nearby islands. We recommend the fresh grilled lobster (choose your own out of the tank) or the delicious wahoo with whipped potatoes. It wouldn’t be a date without sharing one of their tarte aux pommes (the best apple crisp anywhere).

We love On the Rocks for a truly special meal. If you’re a fan of ABC Kitchen in New York, or of any of chef Jean-Georges restaurants, you’ll love his St. Barths incarnation. Think shared plates of tuna on crispy rice, snap pea and Parmesan salads and simply grilled fish. With the waves crashing below, it’s a thrilling vista just for drinks (try the ginger margarita!).

As the little sister to celebrated Italian eatery Isola, Isoletta offers simple, feel-good food with no reservations required. Every night they offer a huge selection of thin-crust pizzas, as well as freshly made salads and arancini. Lounge on their comfy white couches as you take in the town’s sounds.

If you haven’t seen the naturel side of St. Barths, head to restaurant Le Gaiac, which overlooks Toiny beach—the island’s surf mecca. Here you’ll have a traditional French meal (think foie grois and crepe suzettes), with attentive service and a romantic ambiance.

And don’t forget to…

Find a night to split a post-dinner crepe au sucre at Le Creparie. Have a rum cocktail and your favorite sushi at Bete a Zailes while listening to live music. Pick up pizza or spaghetti carbonara at Andy’s, rent a movie from Tropic Video and have dinner at the villa. And lastly, don’t leave the island without sampling Maya’s flourless chocolate cake as you watch the boats in the harbor.
