Gourmet Fest

St Barts, French West Indies Islands  – Good news for food and wine enthusiasts who like to combine travel and fine dining. This November the Caribbean island of St Barts will host the seventh edition of the St Barts Gourmet Food & Wine Festival. Now considered a major culinary event that rivals the Aspen Food & Wine festival, this year’s event in St Barts boasts a star-studded line up of chefs from several of the world’s top restaurants. For the past six years in November, this jet setter island playground has welcomed Michelin-starred chefs to partner with top local chefs to create a series of extraordinary gastronomic indulgences over the course of four nights.

If you are a food enthusiast with a passion for travel, consider a trip to the casually chic, sun-drenched island of St. Barts in November for a chance to hob nob with some of the French world’s best chefs and taste some of their highly-rated culinary creations. This year’s festival event highlights include four nights of tasting dinners at seven local restaurants, a wine tasting event, and friendly cooking and cocktail making competitions.

Stéphanie Le Quellec

The first female chef to be invited to the festival, Stephanie Le Quellec has earned two Michelin Guide stars for her restaurant, La Scene in Paris. Born just outside of Paris, Le Quellec started cooking at age seven. She was the winner of Season 2 of the reality television show “Top Chef” in 2011. Le Quellec began her culinary career at Le Cinq in the Georges V Hotel in Paris before opening La Scene in 2019. She is one of very few female chefs to have earned two Michelin stars. Le Quellec is married (to a chef, of course) and has three children. She is being sponsored for the St. Barts Gourmet Festival by Restaurant Tamarin.

Sébastien Vauxion

Sébastien Vauxion is the third two-Michelin-star chef to participate in the St. Barts festival this year. He is the head pastry chef at Restaurant Sarkara in the K2 Palace Hotel in the French ski resort of Courchevel. He is the only chef in the world to be awarded two Michelin stars for creating desserts. He is being sponsored at the festival by the Hotel Manapany.

Cédric Grolet

Cedric Grolet is the pasty chef at the Hotel Meurice in Paris. His creations focus on fresh fruits and the the reinterpretation of classic French desserts. A native of France’s Loire Valley, Grolet has worked at Fauchon in Paris and joined the team at Le Meurice in 2011. He opened his own pastry shop within the hotel in 2018. Grolet is also the author of “Fruits”, a cookbook that explores his fruit-based desserts. He has earned numerous awards for his cooking, including the Best Pasty Chef award in 2018 from Gault Millau. Chef Grolet is being sponsored for the festival by the Hotel Cheval Blanc.

Pierre Gagnaire

Chef Gagnaire, a native of France’s Loire Valley, is a multi-star chef who has worked at some of the finest restaurants in France, including his own eponymous Pierre Gagnaire Restaurant, a three-star eatery in Paris. Gagnaire was one of the early proponents of fusion cuisine. He also owned restaurants in Las Vegas and London. For the festival, he is being sponsored by the Hôtel Carl Gustaf.

Juan Arbelaez

This popular Columbian chef is the proprietor of several renowned restaurants, including Yaya, Vida, Plantxa and Levain in France. A graduate of Le Cordon Blue, Arbelaez appeared on season 6 of “Top Chef”.  He is married to Miss France, Laury Thiellman. The couple has millions of followers on social media, including Instagram, and they will be chronicling their experiences at the St Barts festival on their pages. For the festival, Chef Arbelaez is being sponsored by the Nikki Beach Restaurant and Beach Club on St. Barts.

As in the past, each guest chef will create a special multiple-course menu for the four dinners being held during the festival, allowing residents and island guests to sample their various styles of cuisine and signature dishes.

The St Barts Gourmet Festival has grown into one of the top gourmet food festivals in the world, combining world class cuisine with the casual elegance and natural beauty of St Barth. Since it began in 2013, the St Barts Gourmet Food and Wine Festival has showcased the island of Saint Barthélemy through the prism of gastronomy and as a means to share the values of conviviality and authenticity that are the hallmarks of the island.
