Just Back From Barbados and Mustique
One of the best aspects about advising you on where to vacation is that we’ve been there ourselves! Seen the sunsets, tested the beds, found the best restaurants – all in the spirit of making the best recommendations to you. This past July, Jean, Michael and Suzanne from our Villa Specialist team took a trip to Barbados and Mustique. Read about some of their tips and tales below.
Where We Stayed
Barbados
“We fell in love with the butler Darwin at Villa Klairin – he did everything to make us feel at home. Nestled on the beach at Villa Belair, we met the mornings with a swim in the warm waters, then were served eggs and bacon our terrace.”

“In the midst of touring 70 villas, the staff often prepared lunch for us. The coconut cake at Villa Windward is alone worth a trip back!”

“Whether you’re seeking a lavish beachfront estate, like the magical villa Greensleeves, a property within a golf resort such as Cocomaya, or a simpler property or condo like those at Emerald Beach, Barbados truly has it all.”

“Lunch at the Fish Pot is a must do. Cin Cin rivals The Cliff for the best oceanfront dining, too. Our favorite meals though? Flying fish prepared at the villa!”
Mustique
“I was lucky enough to travel to Mustique years ago. The love you feel from this island is very special. There is no noise except for what Mother Nature offers: silence, wind, birds, frogs and, oh, tortoises, lots of them!”
WHERE WE STAYED:
“We arrived to Villa Paradiso, with views of both the wild Atlantic and the calm Caribbean seas. Our butler Mac greeted us with rum punches and a tour of our home for the next three nights.”
“Like many islands, Mustique villa styles vary. Some are East Asian, like Villa Opium, some plantation style, like Fisher House, and some Mediterranean. What they all have though, is a sense of place.”

“We made a point of seeing the villas Olivier Messel had designed, including Clonsilla and Les Jolies Eaux, the latter of which was a wedding gift to Princess Margaret.”

“Our favorite lunch was a private barbecue picnic at Macaroni Beach, with all the fixings. Firefly is one of the only restaurants on the island and has rustic charm and great food (try the garlic shrimp!)”
“I awoke to incredible views of both the Atlantic and Caribbean Sea. Nearby, the soft rolling hills were dotted with tortoises crawling ever so slowly to their intended destination. The breezes here were constant and welcome.” Villa Specialist Suzanne

WHICH TO PICK?
For an authentic Caribbean getaway, with plenty of restaurants and beaches, plus the English charm of a cricket game or a horse race, Barbados (all 21 miles long) is for you. At 2 miles and with 100 private homes, Mustique is very exclusive—even more so than St. Barths. It’s the ultimate hideout for when you don’t want to be seen, and simply want to relax and unwind. On both islands, you’ll be equally pampered by the wonderful staff, and will wonder how you ever got along without one.
