Cabo San Lucas Golf
The area around Cabo San Lucas is home to several championship level golf courses, designed by some of the greatest golf course architects including Jack Nicklaus, Tom Weiskopf, Robert Trent Jones Jr, and Pete Dye. Your Wimco agent can arrange a tee time for you at most of these courses.
The magnificent terrain around Cabo San Lucas is comparable to that found in Arizona and California desert golf courses. What sets Los Cabos apart is the presence of the Sea of Cortez, a sparkling water-wonderland of incredible hues reaching as far south as the eye can see.
Though considered by some as intimidating, the six signature championship golf courses in the area are pricey to play, but ultimately playable. Low handicappers playing off the pro tees will find them challenging and will appreciate the genius and skill that went into their designs, while less experienced players using the middle tees will be rewarded with a good day’s combat.
Cabo del Sol
Cabo del Sol has been ranked among the top 100 courses in the world by Golf Magazine. Site of numerous championship tournaments, Cabo del Sol is a true golfer's paradise with scenic greens overlooking the shimmering Sea of Cortez. At Cabo del Sol, the finest in course design meets the highest U.S. standards of play in a remarkable setting of unparalleled beauty.
The Ocean Course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, stretches for more than a mile along the dramatic coastline of craggy rock outcroppings and sun-drenched beaches. Nicklaus refers to holes 16, 17 and 18 as "the finest three finishing holes in golf" and says Cabo del Sol was his chance to "to design a Pebble Beach."
The Cabo del Sol Desert Course was designed by Tom Weiskopf. The course features undulating greens, elevation changes and dramatic bunkering. Rated #6 in all of México by Golf Digest, this course is only behind The Ocean Course among Los Cabos' resort golf offerings. A 40,000 sq. ft. hacienda-style clubhouse offers a refined atmosphere and the Golf Shop stocks a great selection of accessories, equipment and golf fashion.
The Cabo Real Golf Course
The Cabo Real Golf Course is situated midway along the coastal corridor between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas, at the Melia Cabo Real Hotel. Designed and built by the Robert Trent Jones team, acclaimed for their championship resort layouts around the world, this 18-hole course features both seaside and mountain holes laid out over more than 7,000 yards, and contains numerous sand traps and arroyos. Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed this course so that "every hole features vistas of the sea." Cabo Real provides a real challenge for low handicap golfers, but is still suitable for beginners. Be sure to stop at the clubhouse near the 9th hole for a refreshing snack.
The Cabo San Lucas Country Club
The Cabo San Lucas Country Club (formerly the Raven Golf Club) This Pete Dye Company designed golf course is designed to test the mettle of players at all levels of ability. The play from the back tees is the most difficult in Cabo, while the play from the middle tees is the friendliest. Located only minutes from downtown Cabo on gently sloping terrain overlooking the Sea of Cortez, this 200 acre course has been literally carved out of the mountain and desert terrain while maintaining the fragile eco-system and remains a natural habitat for all manner of flora and fauna. The 18th hole is home to the most spectacular panoramic views of Lands End and is a must see by golfers and non-golfers alike.
Palmilla Golf Club
Palmilla Golf Club was Jack Nicklaus' first Latin America design and is recognized as the Grand Dame of golf in Los Cabos. This 27-hole course is perched on deep canyon arroyos and sits among century old cardon cacti. The course is divided into the 3,337-yard Arroyo Nine, the 3,602-yard Mountain Nine, and the 3,548-yard Ocean Nine. The five sets of staggered tee boxes ensure an exciting game for golfers of every level.
Palmilla is a great resort course with daily trade winds that enhance pinpoint accuracy and challenges even the most experienced of players.
