Villa La Sommita, also known as HII SOM is a very old and valuable estate and other than the wonderful restorations, little has changed at La Sommità in the last 600 years. The renovation has been carried out fully respecting the original beauty and structure, carefully bringing out the most significant characteristics; the beautiful mottled stone and round arches. Terra-cotta floor tiles, oak-beam ceilings, rustic antiques and bare stone walls create the finest country rustic effect with city-elegant furnishings and completely modern kitchens and bathrooms.

Set among the landscape which has been the background to so many paintings, La Sommità radiates harmony and beauty from every view.

Guests of La Sommità are lodged in 5 beautifully decorated, spacious stone houses, two of which, the Cottage and Limonaia (Lemon House), stand on the hill below the old chapel, looking out over the valley. The other three, Olivi (Olives), Cipressi (Cypresses), and Ginestra (Broom Flower) are located among the stone farm buildings and face each other across a piazza alive with colorful flowers.

All houses have quality furnishings and the kitchens are fully equipped with all modern amenities,

Limonaia is an independent house that can sleep 2/3 and is comprised of a dining room with a fireplace and table that seats 4 connected to the living room with a sofa bed, kitchen, double bedroom with ensuite bath with bathtub and over bath shower and garden terrace with furniture.

Olivi is an apartment in the old hamlet’s courtyard and sleeps 4/5 and is comprised of a living room with a fireplace and sofa bed, large kitchen and table that seats 6, twin bedroom (convertible into double) with ensuite bath with shower, a double bedroom with ensuite with tub and an internal courtyard shared with Cipressi with round tables for 6.

The Cottage is an independent house that can sleep 6 and is comprised of a living room with fireplace, kitchen with table for 6, a terrace with table for 6 and sun umbrella, 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with shower, 1 bathroom with bathtub, 1 double bedroom with access to garden and one double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bathtub on the first floor and accessed via a spiral staircase.

Cipressi is an apartment in the old hamlet’s courtyard and sleeps 6/8 and consists of a large living room with fireplace and sofa bed, connected to the kitchen with a table for 10. Has a guest bathroom with a shower, 1 twin bedroom (convertible into double) with ensuite bathroom with bathtub and double vanity and has access to a small terrace. On the second floor is 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bathtub, 1 twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bathtub.

Ginestra is an apartment on the old hamlet’s side and sleeps 8/9 and consists of a spacious living room with sofa bed, kitchen with table for 8 and access to garden with table for 8, 1 double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bathtub. 2 double bedrooms, 1 bathroom with shower and bathtub and a master bedroom with ensuite bathroom with bathtub.

La Sommità makes a unique location for a small wedding, family event or other important occasion and the Chapel is only available for weddings and sleeps 6. The rooms in the Chapel do not have air conditioning, however the 2 doubles are cool because of its thick walls and the 2 singles are provided with fans. 2 extra double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms (1st floor) and 2 single ones with a shared bathroom, suitable for kids or young people only (2nd floor at the top of a spiral staircase) reaching a maximum of 32 guests. This property is part of the club house and ends up in the Tower of the property. It doesn’t have an own kitchen and living room, but guests can use the living room of the club house and dine also at the club house at an extra cost or use the kitchen of one of the other properties. At the club house it is possible to have lunch or dinner, booked in advance.
Reservation Tip – the owners of private villas in Europe prefer Saturday to Saturday rental dates. You’ll have more options if you can arrive on a Saturday. Ask your WIMCO villa specialist for help arranging flights, trains and car service.

    The Italy trip was fantastic. The villa was something out of a dream and just gorgeous. We had more room than we could ever use. The bedrooms were all as advertised and the bathrooms all different but each had essentials and worked flawlessly. The best thing was the housekeeper who we hired to cook for us and were rewarded with each meal being better than the last. She is a gifted chef. She shared stories and kept us smiling. We even changed some trip plans to just enjoy the villa. Some of us went swimming in the pool! It was like the first swim of the summer. Thank you for the recommendation
