January 2010 Barbados Events

The Barbados Jazz Festival
This increasingly popular annual event brings together top billed international performers along with Bajan artists for seven days of jazz. The festival is staged at various venues across Barbados.

February 2010 Barbados Events

Holetown Festival
The Festival commemorates the landing of the first settlers to Barbados at Holetown, St. James in February 1627. Highlights include street fairs, the Royal Police Band Concert, a Musical Festival in the historic Parish Church and a Queen Show.

Holders Season
Founded in 1993, the Holders Season is established as the premier cultural event in the Caribbean. Acclaimed nationally and internationally, the season is a celebration of opera, music and theatre. The production always plays to capacity houses and it's high artistic standard draws audiences from around the world.

Oistins Fish Festival
The Oistins Fish Festival celebrates the life and contribution made by this fishing town to the overall development of the island. The programme includes fishing, boat racing, fish boning competitions, a Coast Guard Exhibition, food stalls, arts and crafts, dancing, singing and road races.

Congaline Street Festival
De Congaline Carnival is a nine-day carnival. The Congaline Village is the heart and soul of De Congaline Carnival and provides a daily exhibition forum and marketplace for a myriad of free entertainment and local articrafts and culture.

May 2010 Barbados Events

Celtic Festival
An annual celebration of culture as Celtic people from around the world visit Barbados for their annual gymanfa-ganu and other events including sports.

Gospelfest
Scheduled for Whitsuntide weekend, the last weekend of May. It is an international festival and attracts major Gospel talent mainly from the USA, UK and the Caribbean. The festival targets the Christian communities across the globe and receives the support of the Gospel music industry in Barbados.

Barbados Rally Carnival
Two weeks of motor sport rallies with plenty of partying, socializing and fun activities in between.

Crop Over Festival
The highlight of the Annual Cultural Calendar is the Crop Over Festival. This Festival originated on the sugar plantation as a means of celebrating the end of the sugar cane harvest season. The Crop Over Festival was revived in 1974 after a period of depression and involves community participation in fairs, concerts, cart parades and other cultural activities with an integral component being the Calypso Monarch.

Annual Sir Garfield Sobers International Schools Cricket Tournament
Named after the renowned Barbadian cricketer, this tournament attracts local, regional and international Under-19 school teams.

National Independence Festival of Creative Arts (NIFCA)
Witness this friendly competition as Bajans showcase their creative skills in areas ranging from dance and music to photography and art. The festival is held annually to commemorate Barbados' Independence, and on Independence Day with an award ceremony.

Run Barbados Series
Described as "the road runner's best kept secret." Ever since the festival started in 1983, many of the world's top runners have, almost incognito, literally rubbed shoulders with the masses who run for fun. Several national champions from around the world have discovered the secretly and done the "Run".
