St Barts Villa Rentals

Saint Barthélemy is an autonomous Caribbean island with French ambience, a distinctive élan, and beautiful unspoiled beaches. It is known as a playground for the rich and famous, situated in the French West Indies just to the south of St Martin.

The island's name is abbreviated to St-Barth in French, and it's also known as St Barts or St Barths among American and British vacationers respectively. Only about 10 square miles in area, the island is small, friendly and stunningly beautiful.

Vacationers on St Barths have several choices for accommodations, including private villas or luxury rental homes, small five-star hotels, intimate luxury resorts, and small guest houses. For most of the year, St Barts is a favored destination for vacationers who want seclusion, privacy, stunning beaches, access to fine dining, superb services and outdoor activities including water sports, tennis and sailing.

St Barts is a popular celebrity destination because of its beauty, intimate feel, upscale accommodations, numerous highly rated restaurants and a relatively high standard of living. Tourism is limited by geography as the shallow port can only accommodate small luxury cruise ships, and small prop planes. With a population still under 10,000, St Barts annually attracts about 200,000 visitors.

New Year's Eve is the event of the year in St Barts, when the island is visited by hundreds of luxury yachts, the villas and hotels are all fully booked, and the party in the harbor town of Gustavia lasts through the night!

Hotel Le Toiny: consisting of 15 pastel bungalows, called Villa Suites, overlooking the bay of Toiny. Each has a private, gated entrance, and is surrounded by tropical vegetation.

Cheval Blanc Isle de France Hotel: a luxury hotel located on Flamands beach, which plays host to a weekly fashion by the pool! The hotel has a spa with a full menu of treatments offered, and an inviting al fresco restaurant overlooking the bay.

Le Christopher Hotel: You'll love the huge free-form infinity pool that seems to extend into the sea just beyond. Located on Pointe Milou, this 35 bedroom hotel is an ideal place to catch a sunset.

Le Sereno Hotel: With only 39 newly-refurbished suites and three spacious four-bedroom villas that stretch along a sand beach, this spa hotel includes a fitness room, spa, and a serene garden that invites meditation and relaxation.

Eden Rock Hotel: This highly-rated hotel was once the site of a private home owned by the first mayor of the island.

The Guanahani Hotel: Secluded in Grand Cul de Sac, this 66-cottage hotel has been here for over 35 years. It's spa and restaurants are must-visits.

Le Carl Gustaf: After extensive renovations, Le Carl Gustaf is back in business. 21 rooms, suites and bungalows li in colonial-chic splendor in the heart of Gustavia.

Vacationers coming to St Barts can choose to rent a private villa ranging from one to eight bedrooms in size, or reserve one or more rooms in a 5-star luxury resort hotel.

Villas are a great option for groups who enjoy space and privacy, yet also want to be able to easily come together as a group to prepare meals, relax by the villa's private pool, and enjoy games or movies at night. Book a unique St. Barts beach rental, or choose from among the distinctive St Barts villas for rent.

Add the personal services you need to make your stay truly carefree such as private chef service, and in-villa spa and massage services.

Vacationers can also choose to reserve one or more rooms at an upscale boutique hotel, where life is no more complicated than deciding when to order breakfast and what to choose for an afternoon cocktail.

Revel in personalized spa treatments, swim or go body surfing or parasailing, or just idle away part of each day taking walks on the beach and simply gazing at the sea.

What are the Best Things to Do In St Barths

Because of its small size, restrictive development regulations and sensitivity to preserving the natural landscape, St Barts does not have some of the typical attractions of other Caribbean islands like water parks, casinos and golf courses, but that doesn’t mean you’ll be bored. Known for its casual chic, some of the more popular things to do include spending time at the beach, dining at the islands best bistros and restaurants, and experiencing the charm of this incredible destination.

Spending time at the beach: With up to 20 pristine, public beaches to choose, you can visit a different beach every day.

St Jean Beach, home to popular beach bars like Lil Rock, Pearl Beach and Nikki Beach, and the best place to watch the small planes take off and land.

Shell Beach, located within walking distance of Gustavia and home to Shellona, a popular beach bar.

Flamands Beach, is one of the longest beaches on St. Barths where rolling surf, shady palm trees and two beach-side cafes make for great relaxation.

Gouverneur Beach, with beautiful cobalt water that's ideal for swimming and snorkeling. It's remote, but worth a visit for a lazy day in the sun, along with a picnic basket.

Bistro Hop and Dine Out: Nikki Beach is an experience not to be missed for people-watching, and Bagatelle, a chi-chi bistro along the marina in Gustavia, has wonderful chef-prepared food, music, dancing and outstanding cocktails.

Notable restaurants include Black Ginger, Eddy's Restaurant for traditional Creole dishes, La Guerite, Le Repaire, Maya's Restaurant, Orega for French-Japanese fusion at dinner, Bonito for its cocktails and view of Gustavia harbor, and L'Isola, serving Italian classics by candlelight.

But the choices are so varied, and the list so extensive that you'll want to discover your own favorites.

Uniquely St Barth: The Halle des Poissioneirs, or fishmongers hut is near the ferry terminal in Gustavia. Local fishing boats unload the local catch to restaurateurs between 7 and 9 a.m.

It's quite a show, matched only by the hungry tarpon who put on a show of their own as they battle to consume fish parts thrown into the water.

PLANNING YOUR TRAVEL TO St Barts

St Barts is one of four Leeward islands, including Saint Martin, Martinique and Guadeloupe, known as the French West Indies. The island is 10 miles south of St Martin and about 1,200 miles southeast of Miami.

Once part of the department of Guadeloupe, a French overseas region, St Barts was also under Swedish rule for almost a century, and Gustavia, its capital, was named after Gustavis, a Swedish king.

Because the island's airport has one of the world's shortest runways it can only accommodate small prop planes. Thus, there are no direct flights to St Barths from any airports outside of the Caribbean.

To reach St Barts by plane you need to fly to either San Juan, PR, St Martin, Antigua or Guadeloupe. The airports on those islands all offer short local flights into St Barts. Popular local carriers include Tradewind Aviation, Win-Air and St Barth Commuter.

Scheduled ferry service is also available from St Martin. It's also possible to charter private flights from Miami, or to arrive by private yacht, and those are the preferred modes of transportation for many celebrities who vacation in Saint Barthélemy.

The peak vacation season in St Barts runs from November through June. December bookings typically must be made at least six months in advance. The temperatures rise considerably in the months of June to September.

Many consider November, April and May to have ideal weather, with temperatures running between the low 70s and low 90s, and little rain. Daily rain showers are common from September through November.

Visitors from the U.S., Canada and European countries must have a valid passport and show a return or ongoing ticket in order to enter St Barts.

Citizens of other countries may need visas, but should check with their own nations' embassies or consulates. No vaccinations are normally required.
