Every March, the island of St Barths hosts The Bucket Regatta, one of the most prestigious yacht racing events on the winter racing calendar. An invitational regatta, ‘The Bucket’ features both the latest in super yacht design as well as true classics. St. Barths provides breathtaking views on the water and the best onshore entertainment with gourmet cuisine to match.

The majority of the racing fleet consists of beautiful, large cruising yachts; the exciting pursuit racing and the unique spirit of the regatta are a major draw for over 600 sailors around the world. After a day of highly competitive racing on the water, the sailors and spectators then battle to see who can “win the party” onshore.
The 2017 regatta will feature four days of J Class racing, with two days of windward leeward racing and two days racing around the Islands. The J class yachts are roughly 140 ft long, have a mast height of about 170ft requiring a crew of 30 to drive the 150 ton yachts. A total of six J Class yachts have confirmed their participation for the 2017 regatta on March 16th – 19th. The weather in March creates the ideal wind and weather conditions for competitive racing.

Even if you don’t have the chance to be on board, you can venture over to Gustavia Harbor after racing to get a closer look at the superyachts. Find your way into one of the many celebrations during the Bucket such as; the daily viewing parties near the beaches and the nightly parties at private villas or local restaurants.

This year’s regatta schedule will showcase the latest technological developments in superyacht design and performance. The crews are assembled from the top sailors around the world and feature some of the biggest names in sailing. The view from Fort Karl in Gustavia above Shell Beach is one of the best spots on the island to watch the races.
Wednesday, March 15 – J Class yacht racing begins
Thursday, March 16 – Fleet racing begins with a 24 mile race around the island race
Friday, March 17th – Second day of fleet racing with tactical course racing
Saturday, March 18th – Final Day with a race around the island
