St Barts Covid-19 Updates – test requirements and travel news

St. Barths is open and is welcoming tourists. The island is NOT impacted by the lock-down imposed in mainland France on November 14. Nov 24 –  CDC moves St Barts down to level two risk – Practice Enhanced Precautions.

Traveling to St Barts today – what’s required?

The content on this page is provided for informational purposes only. It is sourced from official government press releases and updates made available to WIMCO’s St Barts office.  The island’s regulations governing tourism during the Covid-19 era is fluid.  It is the responsibility of each traveler to confirm the requirements that apply to their travel dates and individual situations.

To gain entry to St Barts, all travelers over the age of 10 years old must present a negative Covid-19 result.  Travelers have two test options:

Rapid Anti-Gen test where you can get results in 15 minutes, must have been taken in the 48 hours prior to arrival

Molecular PCR test where you can get results in 24 – 48 hours, must have been taken in the 72 hours prior to arrival.

Which ever test you decide to take, we recommend the nasal swab option as this is also accepted by the island of St Martin.

We recommend using testing centers affiliated with large hospitals and university medical centers such as Weill Cornell Medicine in Manhattan, Yale New Haven Health centers in Connecticut and Tufts Medical Center in Boston. If you do not live in an area with a medical center that can quickly process test results, you may want to order an at home test. Here are three options.

Please send your test results to WIMCO prior to departing so your reservations agent can confirm to airlines and local authorities that you have meet the entry requirements.

Connecting through St Martin (SXM)?  – if you are traveling to St Barts through St Martin, you will also need to fill out a travel entry request form for St Martin, and submit it prior to travel. The online form can be found here: https://stmaartenehas.com/application-form/

Staying in St Barts for more than a week?  –  If you are staying on St Barths longer than 7 days, you will be asked to be tested on island on day 7 or 8 using a rapid antigen test. This test can be scheduled in your villa at a cost of 100 euros per person. Your WIMCO concierge in St Barts can assist in scheduling this in-villa test.

Do I need to get tested again to re-enter the US?

The US government does not require proof of a negative Covid-19 test for US residents returning to the US, and it is no longer necessary to present a test result in St Martin when transiting through on the way home.

However, some states ask returning residents to quarantine for 7-14 days upon return. For residents of those states, you can avoid that quarantine requirement by presenting a negative test result no more than 72 hours old, so it may be useful to be tested 2 days before departure. Check your states health department website to see what the regulations are for people returning to the state from out of the country.

What happens if I test positive for Covid-19 while on-island?

If at any time a visitor gets a positive test result while on St Barths, they will be asked to self- quarantine in their villa for  7-14 nights, or until they show no symptoms. If a visitor’s condition worsens and they require medical assistance, they will be examined by a physician in the villa, and then if necessary they will be moved to the quarantine housing by the sports stadium in St Jean. They will be monitored there by health professionals until they no longer show symptoms.

Travelers who test positive are permitted to leave the island after they end the quarantine, as long as they do not have any fever or symptoms.

If a visitor becomes gravely ill while vacationing on St Barths, they will be airlifted to a hospital in St Martin, Guadeloupe or Martinique.  MedJets will perform Covid-19 medical evacuation flights if the visitor is has a membership, and if a local doctor states that they can be moved safely.
