Where Is Calivigny Island?

Calivigny Island lies a quarter-mile off the southeastern coast of Grenada in the Lesser Antilles. This is the far south end of the Windward Islands, along the boundary of the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Calivigny Island and the similarly sized Hog Island to the immediate west form the “gates” of Grenada’s Woburn Bay.

Calivigny Island lies about 110 miles north of Venezuela, in the southeastern corner of the Caribbean Sea.

Activities & Experiences On Calivigny Island

Calivigny’s experiences span the spectrum: indoor and outdoor activities, carefree R&R, and fast-paced thrills and adventure. The full complement of Caribbean watersports and ocean recreation is available.

Try fly-boarding, water-skiing, windsurfing, or enjoy sunrise kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding. Snorkeling opportunities abound. Furthermore, you can experience some first-rate reef and wreck diving locally.

You can also get a taste of the caliber of Windward Island deep-sea fishing. Bluewater charters take you out to cast for such legendary, hard-fighting game fish as marlin and tuna. Or perhaps a sunset champagne cruise is more your offshore style.

There’s plenty to do on dry land, as well, like some relaxing quality time spent on the island’s six sandy beaches. Go for a morning jog or bike ride amid gorgeous tropical lushness. While away an evening around the billiard or poker table.

Serve, volley, and drop shots to your heart’s content on the full-size, floodlit tennis court. Take a culinary class: wood-fired pizza-making, maybe, or Japanese cookery. Indulge in beachfront yoga or an in-suite massage.

Declare an island-wide beach bonfire party and movie night on the huge portable projector screen. Watch the ancient ritual of sea turtle hatching in October and November. Enjoy a Grenada excursion for rum-tastings, waterfall tours, or St. George’s shopping. Sail farther afield to Carriacou or elsewhere in the Grenadines.

A Calivigny Island odyssey can be as wide-open and uncluttered or as action-packed as you wish. Many opt for that perfect balance of sand-between-your-toes R&R and sightseeing/watersports fun.
