The Island of St Barthelemy (St Barths)

Where is the island of St Barths? It is located in the French West Indies islands, an island archipelago in the north western area of the Caribbean Sea. It is 10 miles south of St Martin/ St Maarten and 15 miles south of Anguilla. Other nearby islands include Nevis, St Kitts and Antigua to the south east, and St Thomas, St John, Virgin Gorda and Tortola to the northwest. A map of the island of St Barths shows that it is 8 miles long and 1 mile wide, and features dozens of bays, an undulating shoreline, and a small natural harbor in the town of Gustavia, the island's capital. The beaches of St Barths are one of the main draws, the most celebrated being Gouverneur and Saline on the south shore of the island, and Flamands, St Jean and Lorient on the north shore. The famously short St Barths airport runway is located near St Jean Beach, in the center of the island.
